Generate new surroundings beyond an image’s original edges.
Get the right result: check these first
Make room beyond the edges. Expansion needs a canvas larger than the source in at least one direction. In Custom, drag an edge outward; all-zero padding cannot generate an expansion.
Prompt is optional. Leave it empty for a continuation, or describe what you want in the new areas. It does not replace the need to select an expansion.
Only need a larger image. Use AI Image Upscaler to increase pixel dimensions without requesting new surroundings.
Still stuck? Contact support with the tool name, project link or visible ID if available, source dimensions, output ratio or custom padding, prompt if used, and the edge where expansion failed. Keep the project while it is reviewed. How to send useful troubleshooting details.
Step by step
Open AI Image Expander and sign in. Upload Image.
Choose the output aspect ratio and available resolution. Use the custom expansion controls if you need particular sides extended.
Optionally describe what should appear in the new areas. Leave Prompt empty for a natural continuation.
Confirm there is room to expand beyond the original and review the estimate.
Select Generate Image. Inspect the boundary between the original and generated areas before downloading.
Example expansion prompt
“Continue the sandy beach and pale blue sky on both sides; no new people.” Describe the new surroundings rather than asking for an unrelated change to the original subject.
Expansion versus upscaling
Expansion adds visual content beyond the edges. Upscaling increases pixel size. Use AI Image Upscaler when you want a larger version of the same composition.
Nothing can be expanded or the result looks wrong
Check the selected aspect ratio and padding: the canvas must extend beyond the source. Generated surroundings are inferred and may contain invented objects or uneven patterns. Try a smaller expansion or a simpler prompt.
Cost, limits, and your result
These instructions cover the Dashboard. Sign in to generate and check the displayed credit estimate and access requirements. File limits and settings can depend on the tool, model, and plan. Follow the upload and validation messages shown for your selection.
Review the completed result before downloading. For signed-in projects, see find and download your creations.
If a job is still processing or failed
For a job still processing, check its status before submitting again. For a failed or technically broken output, see generation failures and credits.
