AI Video Expander: step-by-step guide

Generate additional visual area around a video to fit a new aspect ratio.

Generate additional visual area around a video to fit a new aspect ratio.

Get the right result: check these first

  • Expand the frame, not the duration. Use Aspect Ratio to change the frame shape. Use AI Video Extender to add time to a clip.

  • A long source is rejected. The current expander accepts a trimmed segment up to 30 seconds. Select a supported section; uploading a three-minute file does not make the whole file eligible.

  • Aspect-ratio error. Choose a ratio different from the source. For Custom, fill in both ratio values and stay between 1:8 and 8:1.

Still stuck? Contact support with the tool name, project link or visible ID if available, source length, selected trim, original and target aspect ratios, and the error or affected timestamp. Keep the project while it is reviewed. How to send useful troubleshooting details.

Step by step

  1. Open AI Video Expander and sign in.

  2. Select Add Video and upload the source. Confirm the selected section if trim controls appear.

  3. Choose the destination Aspect Ratio.

  4. Review the output framing and credit estimate, then select Expand Video.

  5. Watch the completed video, checking the newly generated edges throughout the clip, then download.

Expanding versus cropping

Expansion generates surroundings beyond the original frame. Cropping removes part of the original view. Use the aspect-ratio control to choose the destination shape you need.

The edges contain unexpected objects

The tool infers content that was never visible in the original video. Check new areas for invented objects, inconsistent backgrounds, or changes across frames. Use a less extreme change of shape if a result is difficult to control.

I wanted a longer clip

Use AI Video Extender to add time. For higher pixel resolution, use AI Video Upscaler. These controls solve different problems.
