Background Remover: step-by-step guide

Remove an image’s background and keep the foreground subject.

Remove an image’s background and keep the foreground subject.

Get the right result: check these first

  • Upload the image to cut out. Use the original containing the subject you want to keep, then select Remove Background after upload.

  • Need a new background or thumbnail design. Use AI Image Editor for a described composition change. Background Remover removes the background; it does not design the replacement scene.

  • Inspect the cutout. Check the subject’s outline and any missing areas in the downloaded result before using it elsewhere.

Step by step

  1. Open Background Remover and sign in.

  2. Select Upload Image and choose the source. Wait for the upload to complete.

  3. Review the credit estimate and select Remove Background.

  4. Inspect the result around hair, clothing, transparent objects, and small gaps.

  5. Download the completed result. Use an output format that preserves transparency when you need a transparent background.

The background looks black or white

An image viewer may display transparency against a solid color. Check the downloaded file in a viewer or editor that shows transparency. JPEG does not preserve transparency.

Part of the subject disappeared

Try a clearer source where the intended subject is not blended into the background. Fine hair, reflections, and semi-transparent material can be difficult. Inspect the edges before using the cutout.

I want a new background

Removing and replacing a background are different tasks. Use AI Image Editor to describe a new setting for the subject after checking the cutout or original.
