Why is my Generate button disabled or greyed out?

How to troubleshoot render issues

Written by Runbo (CEO of Magic Hour)

If the Generate, Render, or Create button is disabled, Magic Hour is usually waiting for a required input, a valid setting, or a previous setup step to finish.

This is one of the most common reasons people get stuck during creation.

Most common reasons

The button may be disabled because:

  • a file upload did not finish

  • a required field is empty

  • a prompt or setting is invalid

  • the selected mode needs an additional setup step

  • the page is still processing your input

  • your request exceeds your current plan or credit balance

  • the selected tool needs a preview or source input before you can continue

What to check first

  1. Make sure your file fully uploaded.
If your source image, video, or audio is still uploading, the button may stay disabled until the upload completes.

  2. Check for required fields.
Some tools need a prompt, source file, duration, model choice, or output setting before generation can begin.

  3. Look for validation errors.
If the page shows red text, an inline warning, or a missing-input notice, fix that first.

  4. Try simpler settings.
If you selected a combination of settings that the tool cannot use together, try a more basic setup first.

  5. Refresh the page.
If the page seems stuck after a completed upload or setting change, refresh and reopen the project.

  6. Confirm your credits and plan.
If your request is too large for your current plan or credit balance, the generation action may stay unavailable. Check My Plan.

Tool-specific examples

On image-based tools, the button may stay disabled if:

  • no image is uploaded

  • the upload failed silently

  • the selected edit or mode still needs more input

On video tools, the button may stay disabled if:

  • no source video or source image is attached

  • the selected duration or mode is invalid

  • the tool is waiting for a preview or intermediate step

On prompt-based tools, the button may stay disabled if:

  • the prompt is empty

  • the selected model or output option is incomplete

  • the generation settings conflict

If the button is still disabled

Contact support and include:

  • the exact tool page you are on

  • the full page URL

  • what step you are on

  • what inputs you already added

  • any visible error text

That makes it much faster for us to diagnose the problem.
